OpenAI is currently beta testing a new workspace interface for ChatGPT called Canvas, which was unveiled on its official blog and is currently available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users. Enterprise and Edu users will have access to Canvas next week. This virtual interface space allows users to consult with ChatGPT on writing and coding projects by opening a separate window where they can input writing or code and highlight sections for the model to focus on and edit, akin to a copy editor or code reviewer. Users can manually open Canvas by typing “use canvas” or it can automatically open in scenarios where it could be helpful. Various shortcuts are available for writing projects such as requesting edits, adjusting length, changing reading levels, and adding emojis. For coding projects, ChatGPT can review code lines, add logs and comments, fix bugs, and port coding to different languages in Canvas mode. OpenAI’s Canvas feature brings ChatGPT in line with other AI assistants that have separate workspaces for specialized project areas.
