A documentary on Oprah Winfrey that was set to come to Apple TV+ is no longer happening, as Winfrey herself bought back the rights to it due to alleged clashes with filmmaker Kevin Macdonald over edits. According to reports from PageSix, Winfrey paid a significant sum to Apple to ban the documentary. A spokesperson for Winfrey stated that she bought back the rights as the Apple TV+ deal was ending and decided to put the doc on hold, expressing gratitude towards the filmmakers. Erspamer, who previously worked with Winfrey at OWN, was let go in 2012. Despite being very involved with Apple TV+ and launching shows like The Oprah Conversation, Winfrey’s multi-year deal with the platform ended in 2022, leading to the decision to regain the rights to her documentary, with sources speculating on the amount spent ranging from millions to six figures.
