Car manufacturers are set to develop new AI voice assistants for their vehicles through a new partnership between Qualcomm and Google as announced today. Qualcomm is collaborating with Google on a new AI development system for carmakers, leveraging Google’s Android Automotive OS (AAOS) as the foundation. This partnership will see Qualcomm offering its Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google Cloud and AAOS to create AI-powered digital cockpits for cars, with new chips like the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite for driving systems. The innovative interface will enable drivers and passengers to engage with custom voice assistants, immersive maps, and real-time driving updates without the need for a smartphone connection. Volkswagen is also integrating ChatGPT in its cars’ voice assistants, following in the footsteps of other manufacturers like Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo, and Rivian who have adopted AAOS for their vehicles.
