When you’re not watching Barkitecture or the Weird Al movie on your Roku, the device turns on its familiar scrolling, purple city-scape, eliminating the Flintstones-esque background in rest mode. The new feature called Backdrops will showcase classic works of art and stunning landscapes for Roku users to choose from, soon available on Roku-branded TVs and third-party Roku TVs, with Roku streaming players and streambars getting it in the fall. With thousands of images to choose from, including art history and geography descriptions, users can also upload their own photos to customize their Roku experience. Backdrops transforms your TV into an interactive museum experience, making lounging on the couch in your sweatpants more culturally enriching.
