The ongoing battle between Spotify and Apple has shifted to volume controls, as Spotify reports that Apple has discontinued the technology that allowed volume adjustments through iOS device buttons when using Spotify Connect. While Spotify works on a solution, users will need to use the volume slider within the iOS app instead. This issue does not affect Bluetooth or AirPlay connections or Android users. Spotify Connect allows syncing with speakers, TVs, and other devices from within the app using Bluetooth or WiFi, providing full control over the connected device. The recent loss of volume button control affects iOS users, with Apple requiring Spotify to integrate with HomePod to restore the feature. Spotify will prompt users to adjust volume within the app temporarily until a solution is found. This development has reignited Spotify’s accusations against Apple for violating the Digital Markets Act. The article contains affiliate links, and Engadget has reached out to Apple for comment.
