The Mac mini could be in line for a major overhaul when the M4-powered model arrives, speculated to be about the size of an Apple TV box according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. This would make it the smallest desktop computer Apple has built, with expectations for the M4 Mac mini to emerge later this year, marking the first major revamp of the system since 2010. The next Mac mini may be just 3.7 inches wide, less than half the size of the existing M2 model, but could potentially be taller. The report suggests the M4 Mac mini may be roughly equivalent to an iPad Pro, possibly cheaper to produce but uncertain if that will affect the retail price currently at $599. Apple is testing two versions of the Mac mini, including an iPad Pro equivalent and a more powerful setup with an M4 Pro chipset, potentially featuring three or more USB-C ports and HDMI port. There are also speculations of M4-powered iMacs and MacBook Pros this year, while next-gen MacBook Airs may not arrive until spring and the next Mac Pro and Mac Studio could debut in mid-2025.
