Threads is rolling out a new location tagging feature in its app, allowing users to add a location to their posts, similar to Instagram. Some users have already seen the change, which offers a list of nearby places to tag or the option to manually search for a place, with some users humorously tagging their posts as “hell.” According to an in-app disclaimer from Meta, the company plans to use location sharing to personalize content about nearby places, potentially improving the app’s search functionality. This change could make the app more useful for following breaking news and other timely events. Additionally, sharing locations could be vital for Meta’s future advertising plans for Threads, as Mark Zuckerberg has mentioned the company’s intention to introduce ads to the platform. While Meta has not responded to inquiries about the feature, it appears to still be in the process of rolling it out, as it briefly appeared in the Threads app for some users but then disappeared shortly after. Currently, the location sharing feature is not visible on the web version of Threads.
