The problem started at around 9:30AM ET, with hundreds of thousands of people experiencing issues with their mobile service, as seen on Downdetector. Users complained of being unable to make or receive calls, with some iPhone users seeing “SOS” on their screen. The problem was most prevalent in certain states on the east coast and midwest, with reports also emerging on the west coast. Despite Verizon acknowledging the service disruption, the cause of the outage remained unknown. By 5:04PM ET, service restoration had begun, with reports of outages decreasing. Finally, at 7:18PM ET, the company confirmed full restoration of services, although the cause of the disruption was still undisclosed.
