Despite the company’s recent decision to comply with the demands of the Brazilian Supreme Court, X remains offline in Brazil, as reported by Reuters. This is partially due to the company paying its fines to the wrong bank. Following weeks of being banned in Brazil, X named a legal representative for the country, took down accounts accused of spreading misinformation and hate speech, and awaited the final step of paying off fines amounting to $5 million. According to Friday court filings, X claims to have paid the fines and requested service restoration, but Justice Alexandre de Moraes stated that the funds were deposited in the wrong bank, delaying the decision until the transfer is complete. X maintains that it paid the fines correctly and has been working with the Brazilian government to resolve the situation after initially resisting the court’s orders.
