YouTube is currently testing a revamped version of its Premium Lite subscription tier, with limited ads described as most videos being ad-free but with the possibility of ads on music content and Shorts, as well as non-interruptive ads when browsing. Originally launched in Europe in 2021 but discontinued in October 2023, the new Premium Lite plan is now being tested in Australia, Germany, and Thailand. Priced at $9 a month in Australia, half the cost of the full Premium plan, this mid-tier option could appeal to users looking for a more affordable subscription with fewer ads compared to the regular Premium offering.
