Ford is aiming to make EV charging more convenient by offering a free home charger and installation for those who purchase or lease a retail Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit between October 1 and January 2. The program may be extended if successful, and Ford Pro fleet customers will receive a $2,000 commercial charging cash incentive. Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal reports that buyers will receive a Level 2 charger, saving them money on the $1,310 cost of the Ford Charge Station Pro and $2,000 installation fee. However, customers considering the offer should ensure their garage is properly wired for Level 2 charging. Ford’s EV sector has been struggling, with potential losses of $5.5 billion this year. The company has made various adjustments to its EV lineup, including cutting production of the F-150 Lightning and shifting focus to hybrids. The decision to offer free home chargers may be a strategic move, but it may not fully address the underlying challenges faced by Ford’s EV division.
