Verizon mobile customers reported widespread outages across the US on Monday, with hundreds of thousands experiencing issues with their mobile service starting around 9:30 AM ET. Downdetector, which tracks user-submitted outage reports, saw a spike in volume to almost 105,000 at 11:20 AM, with reports still reaching almost 59,000 by 12:52 PM. Many users were unable to make or receive calls or exchange text messages, with iPhone users seeing “SOS” instead of connection bars. The issue was most prevalent in New York, New Jersey, Georgia, and other areas on the east coast and midwest, with some reports on the west coast and an intensifying hot spot in Los Angeles. Verizon confirmed the service issue and stated that engineers were working to resolve it, though the cause of the outage was not yet clear.
