LG’s stretchable displays, originally showcased at CES 2023, have now reappeared at a fashion show following an announcement by the company. Rebranded as Stretchable, the technology was featured in clothing and accessories designs at the 2025 Seoul Fashion Week by Korean designers Youn-Hee Park and Chung-Chung Lee. These displays can be pulled, bent, and twisted, exceeding the capabilities of bending displays in foldable smartphones. Constructed with a silicon substrate similar to contact lenses and microLEDs smaller than 40-micrometers, the displays can stretch up to 20 percent. This innovation represents a significant advancement in flexible wearable technology, a concept long explored by the fashion industry and even in areas like invisibility cloaks. South Korea’s government has initiated a national project to explore the commercial potential of new wearable technologies, with the main challenge being making them more fabric-like. LG’s Stretchable displays show promise in addressing this challenge.
