Apple has introduced some major repairability improvements with the iPhone 16 lineup, notably with the new battery removal process for the base model. Instead of traditional pull tabs, Apple has implemented an adhesive that debonds with a low electrical current, making it quick and easy to remove the battery in just about a minute and a half. iFixit’s teardown video showcases the process, with tech Shahram Mokhtari noting it as one of the cleanest and smoothest battery removals they’ve seen. Only the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature this new adhesive, earning a high repairability score of 7/10 on iFixit’s scale. Mokhtari praises Apple for stepping up their repairability game and achieving another win in this area with the improved battery removal procedure on this year’s base iPhones.
